Samsung Electronics has introduced its latest consumer SSD, the SSD 990 EVO, aiming to enhance performance for everyday tasks such as gaming, business workflows, and creative work.
Enhanced Performance
The SSD 990 EVO shows a 43% improvement compared to its predecessor, the 970 EVO Plus. Sequential read speeds reach up to 5,000 MB/s, and write speeds reach 4,200 MB/s. Random read and write speeds also get a boost, reaching up to 700K IOPS and 800K IOPS, respectively.
Utilizing Host Memory Buffer (HMB) technology, the SSD achieves optimized performance even without a DRAM, providing faster loading speeds for games and quick access to large files.
Improved Power Efficiency and Thermal Solution
Compared to the 970 EVO Plus, the 990 EVO demonstrates improved power efficiency of up to 70%, offering extended usage on PCs without constant concern for battery life. Supporting Modern Standby1, the SSD enables instant on/off functionality with uninterrupted internet connectivity and seamless notification reception even in low-power states.
The heat spreader label of the 990 EVO effectively regulates the thermal conditions of the NAND chip, ensuring consistent high-level operations without compromising drive integrity.

A Versatile SSD for Current and Future Computing
Designed to meet current computing needs and anticipate future requirements, the 990 EVO supports both PCIe 4.0 x4 and PCIe 5.0 x2 interfaces. This ensures compatibility with today’s PCs supporting PCIe 4.0 M.2 slots while also offering thermal control and power savings for PCIe 5.0 interfaces in upcoming applications.
